Liverpool Football Club have finally issued a statement in relation to the Tom Adeyemi 'racism' incident. The statement reads as follows: ====== ' Liverpool Football Club continue to work closely with Merseyside Police to establish all the facts surrounding the incident that occurred during last night's game. 'We take this matter extremely seriously and have today provided the Police with the evidence we currently have available to us. 'This includes CCTV coverage and still photography of what we believe to be the relevant part of the stadium, statements from matchday stewards in that area and full access to all the footage captured by the cameras filming the match for our in-house tv operation. 'In addition, we have examined records of the tickets purchased in that part of the ground to see if they provide any additional information and have passed that on to the Police. 'Finally, we would also urge any of our supporters who witnessed this incident or saw the individual involved and who have not already done so, to contact either the Club or the Police.' ====== The club had been condemned on the national news this evening for taking so long to respond to the claims that the Oldham defender had been racially abused by someone on the Kop. We agree that the club should have issued a statement much sooner. Even though time is needed to assist the police and carry out an internal investigation, we would have liked to have seen this nipped in the bud immediately. We're also unhappy that although there is no proof as yet that any form of racist incident took place, that the club did not spell out in their statement that anyone found guilty of such would be banned from the stadium for life. This of course goes without saying, and the club have stated that they are taking the matter extremely seriously, but due to the current climate following the Suarez-Evra bust-up, we believe this statement should have been worded a lot stronger. As much effort should have been put into this statement as the one defending Luis Suarez when he was banned for 8-games. However, we have complete faith that the club will do everything they can to stamp out racism if it is proven to have taken place and we firmly believe that our own supporters will out anyone who runs their mouth in such a manner. We would like to remind supporters of other clubs reading this news item that every club has its fair share of idiots and that rather than latching on to this to use against us because of club rivalry, we ask that you stand united with us and make it known that none of us will accept racism from the stands at any ground by any supporters. That also applies to incidents on the pitch, where proven.
