Think we should be going all out for a World class proven manager like a Mourinho or Benitez but Martin O'neill could work too.

I've been a fan of O'Neill for a while now, would love to have him.

Maybe because the Raffa back thread has been done to death, it continually gets a lot of people upset and we're bored smile

Further MR we are not sure which way FSG are going to go from here. It appears such a mess that there are a number of avenues, one of which possibly could be to limit funding and get a guy in who is a proven wheeler and dealer. We really just don't know.

i watched O'niel teams since Lester City, very smart his teams alwaes consistant and competitive vs big and small teams. he and Moyes are the same.

his biggest signings at Villa were Milnar(12m) and Young(12m)the rest 6m scraps, so he gets it right when he has decent money. he turned GBarry, Young and Milnar into big stage players.

i think he get Liverpool back to the top 4 with only 1 signing (a RW)

Oneill is a coward who only takes on jobs where the teams have no expectations (scottish football is a joke, two team league)
I would rather keep kenny then have oneill.

And I am no kenny fan at all.

Manuel Pellegrini: got as much as KD got to spend over the summer, and brought in far better players such as Jeremy Toulalan for 8mil, Joaquín for 3mil, Santi Corzola for 18mil, Julio Baptista for 2mil, Ruud van Nistelrooy for free, Isco for 5mil plus a few other fringe players who are doing well. I mean we were linked with Corzola, and we paid more for Downing. He's a goreat manager and has done well where ever he went.

The other is Luciano Spalletti, because he knows how to incorporate younger players into the team and did really will with Udinese, Roma and now with Zenit. He is a winner and would be great for the club.

Have to say Pops those 2 manager whilst being good are not as good as Benitez and are thus a step backwards.

First Pelligrino is a good manager but those signings if you look at them are all very poor bar Cazorla and he only got him cause he had a broken leg and no one else would bid on him. When Malaga have a bottomless cash pit you'd expect better signings than has beens who are at the end of their careers or were on the fringes of there old clubs.

Then Spalleti he's done average/good at every club he's been at hes never exceeded expectation which is what we need to get top 4. At Roma did ok but never won league and won the odd cup, at Zenit who are one of the big guns in russia and cant get out of CL group stage.

I think Manuel Pellegrini has done a exceptional job. It depends if you want tomove forward, or if you want to move forward with Rafa. Personally, I like Rafa, but I hardly think that Manuel Pellegrini brought in bad signings, he played it smart and got players that were just past their prime, but very much talented enough to help them collect a lot of points. Instead of buying young, he has gone for experience, and it seems to be working. Don't forget that City didn't buy all their superstars until they had been rich for a few seasons.

Career at Villa (Villa's position pre-Oneill was 16th)
2006-07 - 11th place
2007-08 - 6th place
2008-09 - 6th place
2009-10 - 6th place (above Liverpool)

Please explain how he's a coward.

So he's appparently a top 6 manager.

But is he a top 4 manager or even a top 1 manager?

What are we aiming at? Midtable? Then I think O'Neill is just what we need. Real top class? I'm not so sure since he hasn't managed at that level yet!

some fans have no clue and just are so short sighted.

we want a top level manager or one with the potential to do that. is this O'neill.

I doubt it

With the funds and quality of players he had at Villa he got 6th place consistently. Looks what he's done to Sunderland. It's amazing. I'm not saying if we want to win everything he's our man. You can't say that about anyone. Liverpool is a top 4 club. Is O'Neill a top 4 manager? There's no answer.

[insert some quote about giving someone the opportunity to prove themself]
