I asked does the winner of the Europa league qualify for the champions league.

No. UEFA Cup/Europa League will give then winner of the competition automatic qualification into the group stage of the Europa League regardless of league position in their respective country. It has no barring Champions League qualification. For the uk?

What do you mean? Winning Europa gets you into qualifying for Champs the following year

EDIT: or does this no longer apply? Havent heard of any rule changes..

It hasn't been like that for quite some time. I don't remember it ever being like that but it could have been, it certainly hasn't been like that for the past few years though.

Europa Leagus is a terrible distraction.

Means an awful amount of league games have to be played on a sunday.

Spurs and United couldn't get out of it quick enough this season

Must explain why United reached the last 16, and are going to win the EPL title despite that.

Aside: I wonder if Falcao will be top scorer in the EL two seasons running? He needs 3 from the semi-final and final to overtake Huntelaar (Shalke has been eliminated).

Thundyr its bad playing on a Sunday because if you go to ther games the traditional saturday day out to the game is ruined. For thousands of fans its a tradition beer before the game and into town later or back home to their pubs and discuss the game and watch on match of the day later. For out of town fans from Norway, Sweden, Ireland they make a weekend of it. Sunday games none of this applies and the hotels and businesses in Liverpool will lose out. Its a disaster and what with that and Dalglish many will feel its not worth bothering.

Really? Never realized the EL/UEFA Cup games were under-attended when Hodgson/Houllier were in charge.

Falcao looked lethal in it last season. I was surprised he didn't go to a bigger club.

The premierhip are nearly all season ticket so they go anyway. I have no figures but I bet the sunday games have less fans coming on spec. As for the Europa games lucky if Anfield is half full.

Porto to Atletico Madrid is a step up, surely.
