Those looking for a complete overhaul of our policy will disappointed. Werner commented today that they like the policy, think it's the right one, and will be continuing with it. By 'the policy' I take this to mean our practice of buying younger players with sell-on value... NOT necessarily British ones. Why have they decided Comolli is the wrong man to implement the policy? Firstly, because he has not proven to be a very good fee and terms negotiator. And this is one of the main reasons by Comolli has been moved out and not Kenny (yet). Also, Comolli was fully in charge of transfers when Kenny was interim manager, which means that he bears the brunt of the Andy Carroll transfer. Lastly, FSG might be alluding to his choice of player by opta stats rather than other factors... or they might be disappointed that he didn't use his European prowess in bringing in more players in the Suarez mold. While it is true that Kenny is complicit in the British preference thing, FSG might be willing to let Kenny have another crack at a summer transfer window with instructions not to repeat what he did last year. The people criticising Kenny seem to think that he would buy the same sort of players every window, thus making the same mistake over and over again. Hardly any manager does this... and they all tend to wise up after a few failures. It may be that they'll just sack Kenny and start fresh in the summer.... but don't be surprised if Werner meant what he said about stability and supporting Kenny. Don't be surprised if they are willing to give him another season on the strength of our cup performances.... and another transfer window with more specific instructions on policy. I think we will continue to buy young... but I think we'll see a few more Coates than Hendersons.

I think we will now start seeing a more direct leadership model being applied by the owners.

They don't need to rely that much on other's expertise anymore, because now they have been there for a while themselves.

All transfers will see the owners being more directly involved from now on, which means KD won't manage to make the same mistakes again - even if they let him stay on board.

But we dont't have a policy of buying younger players that have a re-sale value?! If we do, we haven't even tried to put it in to practice.

"Quick Return to Champions League" was the problem i think.. experienced English/British players signed to help the team. Unfortunately they done really really bad

Firstly, player values go up and down quickly. A few good games and some goals and Carroll would get back into the England frame and his value would start rising. Same for Hendo and Downing.

Secondly, I don think these players were particularly "experienced" despite being British. Downing has played in Europe a little bit I think... but Carroll and Hendo are fairly young and green players. Adam had barely a season's experience in the prem.

Thirdly, it isn't as dire as people make out. Coates looks good value... as does Enrique. Downing does a lot of things well and just needs to fix his final ball. Carroll is showing signs of progress... and Hendo might be a really good player in years to come. I was very impressed at how he handled the Blackburn game at right back. That leaves Adam to be considered a dead loss and he wasn't that much money. If he rediscovered his Blackpool form he'd be an ok squad player. Even if we do end up selling a couple of the above players for a loss... it won't kill us. It happens to all clubs and is part of the game.

Any player who can provide winning score/assist 10+ out of 38 matches worth 25+ millions

+1 kp, in my eyes carroll and hendo will come good and be first team material in 14/15 season, next season they'll be squad players and season after they'll start to grow

I don't come to the conclusion you do KP. It says quite clearly to me that Commo did not follow the instruction given. To put it simply, Carroll should have been an £8 millionish punt, Henderson maybe £5 Million and as these players supposedly develop they have a far higher worth to move on if the club feels it beneficial.

Instead we end up paying world class money for 'potential' that there is a high possibility of failure with. That is about as far from the correct policy as one can be!

It's also funny they have all these sport science terms for their theory which is basically the same as see one Mr Wenger and rinse and repeat!

Fair enough but who signs the cheques? Who defended the Carroll transfer in the press last autumn? John Henry. Whatever the case with Comolli, Henry and FSG sanctioned the transfers one by one and even explained the logic of Carroll being Torres minus 15 mil. So we would not have got Carroll for 8 mil or Hendo for 5 mil. We got them because we paid over the odds and the owners were willing to do it. I think what Werner was saying today about Comolli is something different... something yet to come out.
