Tim Cahill has questioned Liverpool's ability to win the FA Cup despite beating his Everton side at Wembley on Saturday.

The Toffees went down 2-1 in their semi-final after throwing away a one-goal lead to their neighbours in the 218th Merseyside derby.

But Liverpool will still be the underdogs in next month's final whether their opponents are Tottenham or Chelsea after enduring a disappointing Premier League season.

And the 32-year-old Australian does not fancy the Reds' chances, saying: "I think it's going to be difficult for them.

"They've had an indifferent season and they've just got away with it today.

"A few decisions didn't go our way but I'll just say they've got a lot of work to do."

Heartbreaking

Cahill had been hoping it would be third time lucky for him in the FA Cup, having been a runner-up in 2004 (with Millwall) and 2009.

"This is sad because I've had two finals before in the FA Cup," he said. "And to now not get to a final, it's heartbreaking.

"But, as much as it is for me, I really feel for the fans because it was there - you could feel it and touch it - and even as players we didn't do it in the end."

Cahill admitted Everton only had themselves to blame for the defeat but insists they will stick together.

He added: "They made some good substitutions and they scored two goals from two errors from us.

"As a team, we'll look at it, but we win together and lose together and that's the only way I can sum it up.

"It's a special group of lads and management and everyone really, really pulls for each other."

Howard Webb had an indifferent day, but at least he was indifferent to both team equally. I also disagree that we "got away with it" - we completely outplayed them in the second half, and they had no answers.

But yeah, we do have a lot of work to do. Everyone knows it, so if he was having a go at us he missed the mark because we've already accepted that truth.

They threw every single f*cking egg into this basket today.

Kenwright was saying before the game, we want this, we need it. All emotional and stuff, I'm sure we'll do it, this n that.

How wrong was he. F*cking hilarious his face at the final whistle.

That last goal shattered his wet dreams. You could see it in his face. laugh

Dunno what TIMMY! is saying though, they got totally outplayed second half. If it wasn't for Carra putting his agent Everton hat on for 5 seconds. It would have been 2-0.

Everton were [oops] poor for me.

Methinks they fancied themselves as favourites to win the tie. Silly them. Liverpool is always the dangerous underdog, especially in cup ties.

Fancy themselves?

Did you see Kenwright before the game?

I've never seen so much confidence in his face ever. It was like this was the be all and end all. We're gonna do it! We know it!

....and then some donkey with a pony tail shattered his dreams.

It's not his fault though, he thought the number 9 in red was running the national this afternoon!

We definitely were underdogs. Everton have been really good in the league of late, and of course we're on a 53 year low, doing our best to lose to Blackburn from 2-0 up after quarter of an hour in our last fixture (played a full 24 hours closer to kick-off than Everton's last game, where they thrashed Sunderland by 4).

If I'm honest, I never felt they controlled the game for any period (apart from the odd attack that amounted to nothing, which happens in basically every game). We gifted them a goal they didn't really deserve, and though they gave one back in the same manner that was more "justice" than "luck".

always makes me smile how Everton present this hard luck story (we have no money) no one wants to buy us etc

Liverpool have all the money

Swansea have come up and Norwich and have entertained me more in one season than everton have since the premiership started.
