commiserations to england fans on here. thought your name was on the win there because italy squandered so much, but england had chances too. dont thin either side tonight would have gone on to win the tournamnet but it was a very even game.

harte did his best to psyche out the italians as best he could for the peno's, but i thought pirlo's penalty swung the balance. and ashley cole's was a terrible penalty.

I think against the top level teams or against top level players like Pirlo, you can't afford to give them so much time on the ball and had Italy a clinical striker on the park the game could have been over earlier. In saying that the defence I thought was excellent for the most part but midfield was just overrun and the days of playing 2 in the middle at international level must be coming to an end as 3 decent players will just pick passes through them. Carroll showed good hunger and work again when he came on which is encouraging as was Glen Johnson's performance. Stevie was always going to find it tough tonight and couldn't impose himself on the game although he wasn't helped much by most of the front 4.

I can't see Italy beating Germany as I don't think Pirlo will get the same space as last night and they won't create as many chances and are missing a true out and out striker, bar di Natale, but the Italians are good in an underdog scenario and Germany did leave themselves vulnerable at times to the counter.
