http://www.eplindex.com/16597/a-cross-to-bear-liverpools-crossing-addiction-in-2011-12.html

This sums it up, i dont like stats (for football) but these show that lfc played a stategy under KD, that promoted more crosses than their rivals, and also; that they fluffed their chances from the crosses

421 crosses to score a single goal...

I remember in the late 80s , journalists started to question KDs strategy of employing crosses (far more than any other team)
The purchase of Andy carool meant that he was forced to reemploy this system , which seemed to have worked at blackburn when shearer was the number 9

Unfortunately our number 9 was carrol, and downing often wasnt on the pitch when carol was on the pitch!

In the 80's he had John Barnes best crosser you will ever see and my favourite all time player. If you sign Carroll for £35m then it logical you try to play a game on crossing but it never worked out. Kenny is clueless on the modern game and it was insanity to make him manager and give him all that money one Henry and LFC will be paying for for many years to come.

But the crossing 'system' never produced a ton of goals in the 80s. LFC scored more goals through the middle, Barnes was often employed as second striker towards the end of 88. I dont think you can set out on a style of play hoping to get goals from crosses . As someone else was saying on the comments on the site i quoted from man united had giggs and beckham in same team, it worked because they had more than that to their game, its a kind of extravagance, lfc jumped the gun a bit there , assuming that it would work just by pinging crosses in

Can't wait to see the stats / excuses for this tika masala nonsense we will be apparently blessed with. Players somewhat let Kenny down the c*nts.

If you look at the crossing used by lfc last season the vast majority were from deep... the worst type of cross from a scoring point of view, with very few from the byline, which is a nightmare for defenders with players running on to them. In my view the deep cross was used so as to defend deep, which in turn leads me to conclude Kenny didn't trust his defenders to hold a high line and so allow his wing players to get to the byline. I think this can be proved by the number of times the front players received crosses from deep with no one up in support. This is the worst way to use a crossing strategy and 421 such crosses per goal is a reasonably predictable outcome, and we all paid the price.

Agree 100% good points there. Kenny was focussed on not getting beat because he was not confident in his ability as a manager. That showed too in some of the press conferences when he was clearly losing it at times. Madness appointing him and you nmust blame the owners for that.

think it's fair to say all those who predicted Dalglish to fail when he was appointed because they knew what he was like first time around have been been proved right, just a pity there were people on here quick to critisise them and say they were being negative.
