Where will he play?

I assume Lucas and gerrard are definite starters. They will take the 2 CM role. BR likes downing on the right. We have suarez and borini upfront. That leaves us with a left mid spot. I hope BR doesn't break the bank and stick Allen out left just because he likes the lad.

Unless of course we play rafa's 4-2-3-1

He will play in the role that Shelvey played last night, or will move forward into Gerrard's role as part of rotation or whatever. We need the extra player if Adam is on his bike.

Exactly. How can we expect players to really progress and improve if there's no competition for places. Look at Downing last season- had LW nailed down. I'm not saying he didn't try but if he had a (or more often than not, a few) bad game(s), it didn't matter, he would still start the next game.

Put him in competition with Shelvey, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Adam, and Spearing, he'll have to improve and maintain his standard to keep his place.

The result is a team improving as a whole, not one or two star individuals taking their positions for granted!

while Shelvy was good last night, JA will still give us more, he is better at holding the ball under pressure, can run with it, quicker at closing down and more stamina. but one thing for Shelvy is that he has a bigger passing range.

I know you mean well and clearly want JA to be a success ( we all do), but for you to know so much about him you'd have to have watched him closely for a long time, and I don't believe you have.
Friends of mine (lifelong "jacks"), are very surprised we are trying to sign him, especially for £15m. They like him but concede that he isn't good enough to improve Liverpool and his actual value is more like £5m - that's the quality of player we are pinning our hopes on to get back into the CL. It isn't going to work.

Yeh, and you still have a regular starting 11 at most quality teams with a little tinkering. 15 million for a squad player. Great buy that.

With the midfield surpluses we still have it will be interesting to see where he is put.
