is not about signing new world class players before the transfer window closes as many have suggested.
Rather, I think it's more to do with the system that we're playing. I struggle to think how we could have played much better if we had better players in the side but with the same system.
Rafa has said it a few times - that despite tiki taka being the beautiful way of playing as demonstrated by barca, it's better to win games effectively rather than doing it the fancy way. For rafa, the foundation always starts from the defence and clean sheets. That's why we regularly got clean sheets under him and were always the team with least goals conceded. Have a good defensive system first before we improve the other areas of the team.
But under BR, we look totally porous in defence. We're like an accident waiting to happen when we pass the ball behind and teams start pressing high on us. I can see us conceding lots of goals this season due to loss of possession in our defence. Mark my words on this. For BR to get his system working, he's got to lay the defensive foundations right first. Without that, we'll be the next joke of the EPL come May.
