Given that we got rid of a lot of high wage earners in the summer and failed to bring in a truly big name signing have we now seen the last £100k a week player at Anfield for some considerable time?

Gerrard is certainly on that and then some. Joe Cole is alledgedly on something very near to it. As is Suarez. After that I pretty much doubt whether anyone else gets within £20k of the magic figure. So with that in mind is there anyone out there who is truly worth paying that much again? And is this why some players will not come?

The failure of the club to bring in another big earner may have been due to wages being the biggest stumbling block. But it may have also been a case of not getting the right player at the right time.

Targets for January may well include Theo Walcott or Daniel Sturridge but neither is going to be commanding £100k a week. Or anywhere near that. I would like to think that if this is being run as a business it can still compete on the pitch by getting the best players of a certain level and putting them together in an evenly paid small squad rather than going down the route of big wage earners signed for massive transfer fees.

Any thoughts?

As in any other walk of life you get what you pay for.

Didn't Shankly say that a clubs riches were on the pitch.

problem for us is because we are only a mid table, mediocre Club now if we want a player who is going to turn us into a top 6 Club for instance we are going to have to compensate him with extra wages or he wont come to us simple as, those days where players walked over broken glass to sign for us stopped about 20 years ago unfortunately. I think City had the same problem, when these Arabs took over players like David Silva and big Yaya probably did'nt know who City were so they had to be compensated with obscene wages to make them come. Even Balotelli admited to Noel Gallagher on a recent interview he never even heard of City and thought United were the only Club in Manchester, becuse they have no won the league and are on the football map a bit now through winning a few trophies and a few top players are now at the club players will sign for them and they wont have to give them as much wages as before.

Well if we are targeting Walcott or Sturridge then we might as well pack our bags. Two winger/strikers that never have been prolific, Walcott is overrated and still living off that world cup appearance while the other is a selfish kid with a terrible attitude. What this club needs is to look outside the premier league for once in their freakin life time and find a striker like Rafa used to do when he signed Torres, Babel, Kuyt etc, We need a clinical finisher and he doesn't have to have a Cavani name on his jersey. There is talent out there, every few weeks a player rises and our scouting system need to have 100 eyes open to find these type of players.

How can we be a midtable club if we're in a relegation battle?

Exactly what are our scouts doing out there? Have they shown any result at all over the last 2 years?

I certainly hope they don't have fixed salaries, but are paid for success only (which should indicate their salaries to be around 0 atm)!
